Level 3 Flooded Car Cleaning: Mazda CX-8 Full Interior Dismantling Case

- 6 min read
Not every flooded car cleaning job is the same.
Some cars only have water at the carpet level. Some cars have water reaching the seats. Some cars are flooded much higher, until many interior parts are affected.
This Mazda CX-8 case is a Level 3 flooded car cleaning case based on our own Jupiter Car Detailing explanation.
Level 3 is not a normal carpet cleaning job. It is not a simple wet vacuum job. It is a serious flooded car interior cleaning process that may require almost the whole interior to be dismantled, cleaned, dried and checked properly.

You may also watch our own shop video in this blog.
This video was filmed by Jupiter Car Detailing during an actual Mazda CX-8 Level 3 flooded car cleaning case.
In the video, you can see the actual work process, including interior dismantling, carpet removal, seat dismantling, dashboard removal, door panel opening, leather seat cover separation, seat sponge cleaning, body floor cleaning, rust removal and anti-rust treatment.
We show this real case because Level 3 flooded car cleaning is very different from normal interior cleaning. The work is much more detailed, much more time-consuming and requires proper experience.
Our Own Flooded Car Level Explanation
At Jupiter Car Detailing, we use our own simple level system to explain flooded car conditions to customers.
This is not an official market term. It is our own way to help customers understand how serious the water level may be.
Level 1: Carpet and Body Floor Area
Level 1 usually means the water reaches the lower carpet and body floor area only.
In this situation, the seats, dashboard and higher interior parts may not be affected. The cleaning may focus mainly on carpet removal, body floor cleaning, drying and checking for early smell or rust risk.
Level 2: Seat and Lower Interior Area
Level 2 usually means the water level is higher and may affect the lower seat area, door panel lower sections, seat rails, lower wiring areas and more interior parts.
This type of case usually needs more dismantling and more checking compared with Level 1.
Level 3: High Water Level and Serious Interior Contamination
Level 3 means the water level has reached much higher inside the cabin.
In this kind of case, the affected area may include the seats, carpet, body floor, door panels, dashboard area, wiring areas, hidden sponge, leather seat parts and many interior components.
This Mazda CX-8 case belongs to Level 3.
Why Level 3 Flooded Car Cleaning Is Not Normal Interior Cleaning
For Level 3 cases, cleaning only the carpet is not enough.
Flood water can enter many hidden areas. It can stay inside sponge, under carpet, around metal parts, behind panels and in small gaps that normal cleaning cannot reach.
If the interior is not dismantled properly, dirty water, mud, smell, moisture and rust risk may remain inside the car.
That is why Level 3 flooded car cleaning may require:
Dashboard removal
Door panel opening
Seat removal
Carpet removal
Body floor cleaning
Leather seat cover separation
Seat sponge removal
Cleaning hidden dirty areas
Drying wet interior parts
Rust removal on affected metal areas
Anti-rust treatment
Careful reinstallation
Depending on the car condition, the dismantling work can be close to 90% to 95% of the affected interior parts that can be safely removed.
Why Leather Seat and Sponge Need to Be Separated
In serious flood cases, the seat is not only wet on the outside.
Water can go into the leather seat cover, stitching area and seat sponge. If only the surface is wiped, the inside may still be wet, dirty or smelly.
That is why for serious cases like this Mazda CX-8, the leather cover and seat sponge may need to be separated where possible.
The seat sponge needs to be cleaned and dried properly because it can hold water for a long time. If moisture remains inside the sponge, the car may still have smell later even after the surface looks clean.
This is one of the biggest differences between normal interior cleaning and Level 3 flooded car cleaning.
Rust Removal and Anti-Rust Treatment Are Important
When flood water reaches the body floor and metal parts, rust risk becomes a serious concern.
In this Mazda CX-8 case, some metal areas already showed signs of rust after the flood. These areas needed to be cleaned, brushed or sanded, then treated with anti-rust protection where needed.
This step takes time, but it is important.
If rust is ignored, it may continue to spread under the carpet or around hidden metal areas. After everything is reinstalled, the customer may not be able to see the problem anymore, but the rust risk may still remain inside.
That is why our process does not only focus on washing. We also check the body floor and affected metal areas before reinstalling the interior.
Why We Suggest Cleaning Before Repair for Level 2 and Level 3 Flood Cases
For Level 2 and Level 3 flooded cars, we usually suggest cleaning and drying the car first before continuing with electronic repair, where possible.
The reason is simple.
When the water level has already reached that high, some electronic parts, wiring areas or control boards may already be damaged or close to failing. If the customer repairs the electronic parts first, then later sends the car for deep cleaning, the repaired parts may be exposed again during cleaning.
This can create confusion and risk.
For example, the part may already be weak because of flood water. Or it may fail later when the interior is opened, cleaned or dried. In that situation, it becomes difficult to know whether the issue came from the flood, the earlier repair, or the cleaning process.
That is why our advice is usually:
Clean first. Dry properly. Remove mud and moisture. Then repair the electronic or mechanical parts after the interior is safer and cleaner to work on.
This is not because cleaning can repair electronic damage. It cannot. The purpose is to prepare the car properly before repair work continues.
What We Usually Do in a Level 3 Flooded Car Cleaning Process
The actual process depends on the car model and condition, but a Level 3 flooded car cleaning job may include:
Checking the flood water level
Inspecting affected interior areas
Removing seats
Removing carpet
Removing selected door panels
Removing dashboard parts if needed
Separating leather seat cover and sponge where possible
Washing affected carpet and sponge areas
Cleaning the body floor
Cleaning hidden mud and dirty water residue
Checking wiring areas carefully
Drying affected interior parts
Checking metal areas for rust
Removing visible rust where needed
Applying anti-rust treatment
Reinstalling parts carefully
Final checking before delivery or repair
This is why Level 3 flooded car cleaning cannot be rushed.
Why This Work Is Different From Normal Car Detailing
Normal car detailing usually focuses on making the car look clean, fresh and presentable.
Level 3 flooded car cleaning is different.
The goal is to remove flood contamination from hidden areas, reduce smell, dry the interior properly, reduce rust risk and prepare the car for further repair if needed.
This work requires more time, more dismantling, more checking and more responsibility.
It is not the same as shampooing the carpet or using perfume to cover the smell.
