Level 2 Flooded Car Cleaning in KL: A Real Case
The owner of this car thought the water inside would eventually dry on its own. However, the vehicle remained wet for almost one month before it reached Jupiter Car Detailing Centre in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.
Once we removed the seats and carpet, we found that water was still trapped underneath the carpet and inside the foam underlay. The interior had already developed mould, a strong musty smell and rust. Ants had also started breeding inside the vehicle.

What Level 2 Meant in This Car
For our workshop classification, Level 2 means the floodwater has risen above the floor and reached the lower part of the seats.
At this height, wiring or electronic boards positioned near the floor may also have been exposed to water. The car may still be able to start and move, but fault codes or electrical problems can appear later.
A dry-looking surface does not mean the hidden areas underneath are dry.
Why Surface Cleaning Was Not Enough
Water trapped underneath the carpet and foam cannot be removed through normal surface cleaning.
For this case, we removed the seats, carpet, foam underlay, door panels and other affected parts. This allowed us to inspect, clean and dry each hidden section properly.
The basic cleaning process is similar to a lighter Level 1 flood case, but a Level 2 vehicle requires more attention around the door panels, lower electrical areas, seat frames and springs.
Rust Inside the Seats
The metal parts and springs inside the seats were already badly rusted after remaining damp for almost one month.
We removed the rust and applied an anti-rust protective coating. This step is important because untreated rust can continue spreading and weaken the metal. Sharp or damaged metal parts may eventually penetrate the seat cushion and create a safety risk.
Why We Clean and Dry Before Rushing Into Repairs
If a flooded car displays a fault code, our practical approach is to inspect, clean and dry the affected areas before rushing into electronic repairs.
If a component is repaired too early, the same area may need to be opened again during the flood restoration process. This creates additional work and increases the risk when handling parts that may still contain moisture, dirt or corrosion.
What This Real Case Shows
Waiting is not a proper drying method for a flooded car. Even when the visible surface looks dry, water may remain underneath the carpet and foam for weeks.
